A gunfight erupted in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday evening as security forces, acting on specific intelligence inputs, cordoned off Arhama village. Joint forces, including the army, J&K Police, and CRPF, initiated the operation upon receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area. The encounter began when the security forces closed in on two hiding terrorists who then opened fire, leading to an ongoing exchange of gunfire.
Authorities have sealed all escape routes of the terrorists believed to be holed up in the village. The two militants are currently engaged in a sustained gun battle with the security forces. Ganderbal district, previously known to be free of terrorist activities, is now a cause of concern for security agencies due to this recent encounter.
In a previous incident on October 20, 2024, terrorists attacked a worker’s camp in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal, resulting in the death of seven individuals, including non-local laborers and a local doctor. The attack targeted personnel working on the Z-Morh tunnel project, highlighting the vulnerability of the region to such violent incidents. Subsequent operations by security forces led to the elimination of the perpetrators involved in this and another attack in Pahalgam in April 2025.
