Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini highlighted the importance of enhancing sanitation and drainage systems in rural areas. He instructed officials to ensure the regular and timely cleaning of village ponds and wastewater channels throughout the state. Saini emphasized the need for cleanliness in villages to avoid inconvenience to residents, stressing that village ponds should be odor-free and waterlogging in residential areas should be prevented.
The Chief Minister mandated that cleaning, desilting, and drainage activities follow a structured Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to guarantee transparency, quality, and accountability. He also called for the incorporation of modern technology and scientific designs in pond construction, reconstruction, and modernization. Additionally, Saini urged officials to beautify areas around ponds to provide clean and accessible spaces for villagers, suitable for morning and evening walks.
To improve operational efficiency, CM Saini proposed the use of solar pumps for regular cleaning and maintaining water flow. He warned that any negligence in village-level sanitation would result in strict action, with accountability placed on relevant officials, sarpanches, and staff. Furthermore, he directed that Panchayat Secretaries oversee the regular monitoring of ponds in each village and advocated for an increase in the number of sanitation workers to bolster the system.
The Chief Minister outlined the government’s overarching goal of developing clean, well-maintained, and functional water bodies in rural regions to alleviate issues such as waterlogging, unhygienic conditions, and foul odors. According to reports, the state has identified 6,538 ponds in its action plan, with 2,758 projects receiving administrative approval. Currently, 1,718 works have been finalized, while 484 are still ongoing.
