Star sprinter Hima Das acknowledged the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for its efforts in nurturing the sport at the grassroots level, enabling athletes from small towns to aspire to succeed in the 2036 Olympic Games. Hima, known for her achievements at the 2018 Asian Games, recently participated in the Indian Athletics Series at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Hima, a 26-year-old athlete from Assam, praised the AFI for collaborating with the government to enhance athletics at the grassroots. She expressed gratitude towards AFI for their initiatives, emphasizing the importance of such partnerships in fostering athletic talent across the country. Hima also shared her aspirations for India to excel in athletics, aiming for success in future international events like the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and potentially the Olympics in 2036.
The Indian Athletics Series witnessed remarkable performances by top athletes at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Animesh Kujur secured the men’s 100m title with a swift run of 10.28 seconds, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor excelled in the men’s shot put event with a season-best throw of 21.03m. Additionally, high jumper Pooja achieved a personal best height of 1.90m to claim the gold medal in her category.
The competition intensified during the evening session as male javelin throwers surpassed the 80m mark, showcasing their skills. Rohit Yadav emerged victorious with an impressive throw of 82.17m, followed by Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh in the second and third positions, respectively, in a tightly contested event.
