Despite the chilly weather, the celebration of the completion of the Upahar Build by the Hindu Temple of Atlanta (HTA) and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity was full of excitement and community spirit. On Saturday, March 23, in front of a beautiful house, volunteers, donors, and project officials gathered to rejoice.

Before the celebrations began, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch and hot tea courtesy of HTA. Attendees were then given a tour of the house, where they heard from Dr. Sujatha Reddy, the leader of HTA’s Upahar Build, and representatives from other supporting Temples, in an interview with TV Asia’s Anjali Chhabria.

The highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, with the owner of the new home, Denea Simpson, joined by representatives from Atlanta Habitat and HTA, as well as other community leaders.

Dr. Reddy expressed gratitude for the support received from various organizations and individuals, highlighting the collaborative effort behind Upahar 2024. With close to $80,000 raised and numerous volunteers contributing their time, the project aimed to provide hope and stability to a deserving family.

Denea Simpson, the new homeowner, expressed her excitement about finally owning a home after years of hard work. She thanked everyone involved in making her dream a reality, especially Atlanta Habitat and the dedicated volunteers.

The event concluded with loud applause as Denea cut the ribbon, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in her life. Gifts were exchanged, and attendees posed for photos, filled with joy and satisfaction at the success of the project.
