The renowned human rights lawyer and former AAP lawmaker, H.S. Phoolka, known for advocating justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has switched allegiance to the BJP. Phoolka expressed his long-standing support for the BJP, citing a shift in the political landscape during his AAP tenure.

Phoolka’s move to the BJP was welcomed by the Punjab BJP, emphasizing the significance of his association with the party in upholding justice, truth, and principles. Sunil Jakhar, the Punjab BJP chief, highlighted Phoolka’s unwavering dedication to seeking justice for the Sikh community, praising his decision to join the BJP.

Having won his first Assembly election in 2017 on an AAP ticket, Phoolka’s decision to join the BJP ahead of the upcoming state polls holds political importance. His history of fighting for justice, particularly in the aftermath of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, underscores his commitment to serving the community.

Phoolka’s transition to the BJP marks a notable development in Punjab’s political landscape, with his reputation as a principled advocate for justice adding a new dimension to the party’s platform. His decision to align with the BJP underlines a shift in his political trajectory, echoing broader changes within the state’s political dynamics.
