IIT Delhi Alumni Association Honors Global Achievers at 2025 AGM

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Alumni Association (IITDAA) celebrated the outstanding achievements of its global alumni by presenting the 2025 Global Alumni Recognition Awards (GARA) at its annual general meeting on April 26. This year’s honorees include distinguished Indian-American and Indian-Australian professionals who have made significant contributions across corporate, academic, and social sectors.

Celebrating Excellence Across Continents

Ajay Gupta, a 1985 electrical engineering graduate, was recognized for his remarkable corporate leadership. With over three decades of global experience in healthcare, Gupta has held senior roles at McKinsey & Company and now serves as a non-executive independent director at Healthium Medtech. His influence extends across several corporate and nonprofit boards, underscoring his impact on the international healthcare landscape.

Shonali Gupta, who graduated in 2002 with a B.Tech in electrical engineering, was also honored for corporate excellence. With a two-decade career on Wall Street, she led global Interest Rates Volatility trading at RBC and has taught at IIM Ahmedabad and NYU. Shonali is known for her mentorship and advocacy for diversity in finance, as well as her leadership during major financial crises.

Rajiv Gupta, a 1982 alumnus and Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Riverside, received the award for Academic and Scientific Research. With over 320 research papers to his name, Rajiv is a fellow of the ACM, IEEE, and AAAS, and is recognized for his pioneering work in parallel and distributed computing.

Social Impact Recognized

Indian-Australian Vinod Daniel, a 1984 chemical engineering graduate, was honored for his work in Social Impact and Museology. As CEO of the India Vision Institute, Daniel has led significant heritage and vision initiatives in India and Australia, furthering the cause of cultural preservation and eye care.

The GARA awards, presented during a well-attended ceremony at IIT Delhi, continue the institute’s tradition of honoring alumni who exemplify leadership, innovation, and service on the world stage. The event highlighted the diverse and far-reaching impact of IIT Delhi graduates, reinforcing the institute’s reputation as a cradle for global change-makers.
