Officials from the Drugs Control Administration in Telangana conducted a raid at a quack’s clinic in Karimnagar district. The clinic, run by Vemula Sai Krishna without proper qualifications, was found to have stocked 73 varieties of medicines illegally, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, and antihypertensive drugs.
During the raid, officials discovered antibiotics like Cefotaxime, Cefpodoxime, and Cefixime being sold at the clinic. The Director General of Drugs Control Administration highlighted the risks of unqualified individuals selling antibiotics, emphasizing the potential threat of Antimicrobial Resistance on public health.
The raid also uncovered the presence of steroids at the clinic, raising concerns about the misuse of such drugs. Misusing steroids can lead to severe health issues, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, and cardiovascular problems. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health.
S. Umarani, a Drugs Inspector in Karimnagar, led the raid under the supervision of Assistant Director Sri K. Dass. Samples were collected for further analysis, and the authorities have warned of strict actions against all offenders involved in the illegal stocking and sale of drugs without proper licenses.
