India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, expressed confidence in the strong bilateral ties between the two countries, stating that negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) could commence within weeks. Patnaik highlighted the positive momentum in the relationship following interactions between the leaders of both nations.
He noted the recent appointments of High Commissioners and various ministerial visits, signaling efforts to make up for lost time in the past. Discussions have covered a wide array of areas including national security, law enforcement, mining, energy, education, and artificial intelligence. Patnaik emphasized that the relationship is back on track and progressing well.
Regarding the CEPA, Patnaik mentioned that the deal is expected to proceed smoothly, with negotiations set to begin soon. He pointed out the significant shift in economic dynamics since previous trade talks, underscoring India’s evolving global position as a major economy. The High Commissioner highlighted India’s recent trade agreements with various countries, indicating a forward trajectory in its trade engagements.
