Five-time champions India secured a spot in the semifinals of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup with a 58-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. India, batting first after Pakistan won the toss, recovered from a shaky start at 47/3 to post a total of 252 in 49.5 overs. Vedant Trivedi’s steady 68 off 98 balls and contributions from lower-order batsmen propelled India past the 250-run mark.
Pakistan’s bowlers, including Mohammad Sayyam and Abdul Subhan, made some breakthroughs, but fielding lapses allowed India to score 39 runs in the final four overs. Pakistan needed to chase the target in 33.3 overs to improve their net run rate for a chance at qualification, but their pursuit lacked urgency.
Despite a promising start with Usman Khan and Farhan Yousaf, Pakistan’s chase faltered, losing momentum on a challenging pitch. India’s strategic bowling, led by Ayush Mhatre and Khilan Patel, restricted Pakistan to 194 all out in 46.2 overs. India’s disciplined performance ensured they avoided facing Australia in the semifinals and will now meet Afghanistan in the next stage.
