India has strongly criticized any mention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an email from the “so-called” Epstein files, labeling it as baseless and contemptible. The issue arose following the release of a vast amount of files by the US Justice Department related to the investigation of financier Jeffrey Epstein, who faced sex-trafficking charges and died in a New York jail in 2019. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that apart from acknowledging Modi’s official visit to Israel in July 2017, the other references in the email are merely the unfounded musings of a convicted criminal.
The US Justice Department recently disclosed millions of records linked to the Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell investigations, as part of a transparency law signed by former President Donald Trump. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed that the department had reviewed over three million pages of material, including videos and images, involving the collaboration of more than 500 legal professionals over nearly 75 days. Despite initially identifying over six million pages for review, the final production was significantly reduced after applying legal and privacy standards.
