To boost tourism, the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur has announced a new visa initiative for Malaysian nationals. Effective from July 1, 2024, Malaysian travelers can apply for a 30-day e-tourist visa with double entry at no cost. This visa offer is valid until June 30, 2025. The application process is streamlined through the official Indian visa website at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html.
The initiative specifically targets the e-Tourist visa category, which is now free of charge. However, all other e-visa categories; such as e-Business, e-Conference, e-Medical, e-Medical Attendant, e-Ayush, and e-Emergency; will continue to be subject to existing fees and regulations. Previously, Malaysian applicants were required to pay RM465 (US$98) for an e-visa, making this new initiative a significant benefit for tourists.
Applications for the e-Tourist visa can be submitted online, and the visa must be used within 120 days of issuance. This policy change is part of India’s broader strategy to attract more tourists from Malaysia, mirroring similar efforts by Thailand to increase visitor numbers. Additionally, Indian passport holders can now enter Malaysia for up to 30 days without a visa, reflecting a reciprocal gesture between the two countries.
This new visa policy aims to enhance tourism flow and strengthen the ties between India and Malaysia by making travel more accessible and affordable.
