Straight sets wins by Vaishnavi Adkar and Sahaja Yamalapalli led Team India to triumph over New Zealand in their Billie Jean King Cup Group I – Asia/Oceania match in New Delhi. Adkar defeated Aishi Das 6-2, 6-4, while Yamalapalli secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Valentina Ivanov. Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina teamed up to close out the tie against Monique Barry and Erin Routcliffe.
Adkar, unfazed by her previous defeat, dominated the first singles rubber by breaking Das early and sealing the set 6-2. She continued her strong performance in the second set, winning 6-4. Yamalapalli also displayed dominance, winning her match against Ivanov with scores of 6-1, 6-3.
India’s perfect start continued with a win over Thailand, while Indonesia took the lead in the table with a 3-0 victory against Mongolia. The teams are competing in a round-robin format, with the top two nations advancing to the next stage.
