India showcased a strong performance at the Spanish Para Badminton International 2026 – Level 1 in Toledo, with Pramod Bhagat standing out. Bhagat, a Paralympic champion, secured one gold and two silver medals, demonstrating India’s prowess on the global stage.
Pramod Bhagat’s exceptional run included a gold medal win in the Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 category, partnering with Manisha Ramdass. The duo’s synergy and resilience were evident as they triumphed over Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murugesan in straight sets. They comfortably won the first set 21-15 and clinched the closely contested second set 24-22, securing the title in a 30-minute match.
In the Men’s Singles SL3 final, Pramod Bhagat fought hard but had to settle for silver after losing to compatriot Nitesh Kumar with a score of 10-21, 17-21. He also claimed a silver in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU5 event alongside Sukant Kadam. Despite a strong fight against Naveen Sivakumar and Surya Kant Yadav, Bhagat and Kadam fell short in the decider, finishing with silver.
Expressing his joy, Pramod Bhagat stated, “I’m really happy to come away with a gold and two silvers from Toledo. Every match was a tough challenge, especially competing against my fellow Indian teammates. Mixed doubles was particularly special — Manisha and I showed great understanding and composure in crucial moments. This performance gives me a lot of confidence, and I’m motivated to keep improving and perform even better in the upcoming tournaments.”
India’s overall campaign in Toledo saw multiple podium finishes in various categories. Nitesh Kumar secured gold in Men’s Singles SL3, while Manasi Joshi and Thulasimathi Murugesan claimed gold in Women’s Doubles SL3-SU5. Thulasimathi Murugesan also grabbed gold in Women’s Singles SU5, with Manisha Ramdass earning silver in the same category. The strong showing by several Indian para badminton players underscored the depth and talent within India’s para badminton contingent.
