India has extended its support to Bangladesh in seeking justice for the genocide carried out by Pakistan during ‘Operation Searchlight’ in March 1971. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted the systematic killing of millions of Bangladeshis and widespread sexual violence by Pakistani forces. This brutality led to a massive displacement, with millions of Bangladeshis seeking refuge in India.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman described the events of March 25, 1971, as a “pre-planned massacre” and one of the most brutal chapters in the nation’s history. He paid tribute to the martyrs on Genocide Day, emphasizing the heinous nature of the genocide committed by Pakistani forces. The crackdown involved indiscriminate firing on civilians, including teachers and intellectuals, resulting in numerous deaths.
