India expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for aiding in the safe evacuation of 204 Indian nationals from Iran through its land border. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned that many of the evacuees have already returned to India, with others expected to arrive in the coming days. The Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan recently discussed bilateral issues during the presentation of his credentials.
Azerbaijan played a crucial role in facilitating the exit of Indian nationals from Iran, with the support and cooperation of both governments. The Indian Ambassador met with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss regional developments. The ongoing tensions in the Middle East were also part of their productive discussions.
Last month, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that around 882 Indian nationals, including students, professionals, and pilgrims, stranded in Iran, have been successfully repatriated through Azerbaijan and Armenia. Not all individuals register with the embassy, leading to an estimated 9,000 stranded citizens. The evacuation efforts have seen a significant number of individuals return home, with more expected to arrive soon.
