Defending champion India is set to compete against China in the women’s quarterfinals and South Korea in the men’s quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2026 in Qingdao, China. The Indian men, having secured a quarterfinal spot early by finishing second in Group C, rested players Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth in a close match against Japan.
The Indian women’s team, on the other hand, faced a tough challenge against Thailand, losing by a narrow margin. In the men’s singles, Ayush Shetty and the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured wins for India. However, the team faced setbacks as H.S. Prannoy lost his match, leading to Japan clinching the top spot in the group.
In the women’s matches, Tanvi Sharma and the doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand gave India an early lead. Despite their efforts, India faltered in the subsequent singles matches and the second doubles, resulting in a 2-3 loss to Thailand. The results showcased a mix of victories and defeats for the Indian contingent in the tournament.
