India secured two gold medals at the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Sujeet triumphed in the men’s 65kg freestyle final, defeating Umidjon Jalolov of Uzbekistan 8-1. This victory marked the first gold in this weight category for an Indian wrestler since Bajrang Punia’s win in 2019.
Abhimanyou added another gold for India by overcoming a 0-2 deficit to beat Tulga Tumur Ochir of Mongolia 5-3 in the men’s 70kg freestyle final. Representing the CISF Central Wrestling Team, the 24-year-old Head Constable Abhimanyu from Hisar, Haryana, brought pride to the nation and the Force with his remarkable performance.
Despite a valiant effort, Sandeep Mann fell short in the men’s 79kg final, losing 1-2 in a closely fought contest. Ankush secured a bronze medal by defeating Fuga Sasaki of Japan 8-2 in the men’s 57kg freestyle category, contributing to India’s total tally of two gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals.
India’s medal hopes remain high as Aman and Mukul Dahiya advanced to the final in the men’s 61kg and 86kg freestyle categories, respectively. Aman, a Paris Olympics bronze medalist, displayed his skill by defeating Ahmad Mohammadnezhadjavan of Iran 11-9 in a thrilling semi-final.
Mukul Dahiya fought back from an early deficit in the semi-final against Bolat Sakayev of Kazakhstan, securing a 12-6 victory to reach the final. Dinesh will contend for the bronze medal in the men’s 125kg freestyle category after losing in the semi-final against Shamil Sharipov of Bahrain.
