A 24-member Indian team has landed in Granada for the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol leg, featuring 10 Olympic events. The competition kicks off at the Las Gabias Shooting Range, with 434 athletes from 51 National Olympic Committees participating. The finals will span the week, starting with mixed team events and culminating in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions and women’s 10m air rifle finals on April 12, 2026.
India boasts three medal hopefuls in each individual event, supported by 14 ranking points only (RPO) shooters. The team, including established names like Akhil Sheoran, Anjum Moudgil, and Mehuli Ghosh, has trained early and is set for official pre-event training on April 6, 2026. Reigning Asian Games champion Palak will team up with Mukesh Nelavalli in the 10m air pistol mixed team, while other Indian pairs are ready for the air rifle mixed team event.
The Indian squad comprises shooters ranked 4-6 in domestic national rankings, with a strong lineup featuring world championship medalists and record holders. For many shooters, including those from China, the Granada World Cup marks the start of the international season. Notably, China, Germany, Italy, France, USA, Chinese Taipei, Spain, and Kazakhstan are among the nations with significant representation at the event.
Top stars from various countries, including reigning Olympic champions, will showcase their skills at the competition. With the world championships in Doha offering the first Los Angeles 2028 quota spots, shooters are keen to test their abilities early. This event also presents India with an opportunity to assess its talent pool ahead of the Asian Games.
