The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Home Ministry partnered with the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) of the Finance Ministry to strengthen the fight against cyber frauds and financial crimes. This collaboration aims to enhance information sharing and coordination between the two agencies to improve fraud detection protocols at the national level. The MoU, signed by officials from both agencies, will pave the way for intelligence sharing and the development of guidelines to prevent cyber fraud.
The agreement between I4C and FIU-IND will focus on disseminating red flag indicators and guidelines to financial institutions, bolstering efforts to prevent cyber fraud. By adopting a “whole of Government” approach, both agencies aim to combat cybercrime effectively. This partnership becomes crucial as India’s digital payment landscape evolves, necessitating robust measures to protect citizens from online financial crimes and fraud.
The collaboration between I4C and FIU-IND will not only aid in the prevention of financial crimes but also support investigative agencies in safeguarding digital transactions and recovering assets. FIU-IND, as the central national agency, plays a key role in analyzing suspect financial transactions and coordinating anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing efforts. On the other hand, I4C, an office under the Ministry of Home Affairs, provides a framework for Law Enforcement Agencies to combat cybercrime comprehensively.
