INS Trikand, an Indian Navy frigate, has concluded its mission in Kenya after a productive Operational Turnaround (OTR) that involved various activities to enhance maritime cooperation with the Kenyan Navy. The ship’s visit included professional exchanges, community engagement, and strengthening ties with Kenya.
During the OTR, INS Trikand organized a yoga session that was well-received by local residents and Kenya Navy personnel. The Commanding Officer, along with Indian officials, met with Brig. MS Shemote, Commander of the Kenya Navy Fleet, and visited the Kenya Navy Training College to share expertise on training programs and infrastructure development.
As part of community outreach, personnel from INS Trikand visited Mji Wa Salama Children’s Home in Mombasa, distributing dry rations and interacting with the children. The ship also welcomed visitors for guided tours to showcase its operational capabilities, and a friendly volleyball match between the Indian and Kenyan Navies promoted camaraderie.
Vice Admiral K. Swaminathan and Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, Adarsh Swaika, hosted a deck reception onboard INS Trikand, emphasizing the strong maritime and cultural ties between India and Kenya. The event, attended by high-ranking officials and members of the diplomatic corps, highlighted the commitment of both nations to regional peace and security, further strengthening the partnership between India and Kenya.
INS Trikand, a frontline guided missile frigate, arrived in Mombasa on April 7 as part of its mission in the South West Indian Ocean region. The port call aligns with India’s MAHASAGAR vision, focusing on mutual security and growth across regions, and aims to bolster maritime cooperation and bilateral relations between India and Kenya.
