Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Sibi George, visited Tajikistan and held discussions with Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin. They talked about bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues. Additionally, Sibi George co-chaired the fifth round of India-Tajikistan Foreign Office Consultations during his trip to Dushanbe, along with Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Idibek Kalandar.
The discussions between the two sides focused on various aspects of bilateral ties, including trade, economic relations, science and technology, fintech, pharmaceuticals, culture, and people-to-people connections. The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned that the meetings were productive and covered a wide range of mutual interests. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously met Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, emphasizing the growing trade and cultural connections between the two nations.
India and Tajikistan share a long-standing and friendly relationship, with regular high-level visits strengthening their ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. The deep-rooted historical and cultural connections have played a significant role in elevating the bilateral relationship to new heights. The cooperation between the two countries spans various fields, with a particular emphasis on military and defense collaborations.
