The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season has seen its biggest-ever opening weekend, attracting over 515 million viewers on TV and digital platforms for the initial two high-scoring matches of the ten-team tournament. JioStar, the tournament broadcaster, reported a total watch-time of 32.6 billion minutes for these games, marking a 26 percent increase from the previous season’s opening matches.
CTV reach surged by 30 percent, and concurrency rose by 61 percent. Linear television also experienced a 24 percent growth in TVR for the first two matches of the 2026 season compared to previous years. IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal expressed satisfaction with the season’s start, highlighting the league’s commitment to setting new standards in cricket and fan engagement.
This season introduced unique viewing experiences, including a Hindi feed on connected TV featuring former players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Irfan Pathan. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized the IPL’s continuous growth in scale, quality, and reach, aiming to enhance both on-field action and fan interaction with each passing season.
