Indian trap shooters Kynan Chenai and Aashima Ahlawat narrowly missed entering the finals of the men’s and women’s trap competitions at the ISSF World Cup Shotgun leg in Tangier, Morocco. Kynan scored 119 points, while Aashima tallied 111 points, placing them in the 13th and 14th positions, respectively. The top qualifiers were Nathan Hales of Great Britain and Jessica Rossi of Italy.
Reigning Olympic champion Nathan Hales secured the top spot in the men’s trap qualifiers with a score of 123, while London Olympic champion Jessica Rossi led the women’s trap qualifiers with 121 points. Driss Haffari from the host nation claimed the final qualification spot in the men’s trap with a score of 120, and Rumeysa Pelin Kaya from Turkey secured the last berth in the women’s trap with 112 points.
In the men’s trap, Bhowneesh Mendiratta of India slipped from sixth to 39th place, while Olympian Prithviraj Tondaiman finished 57th. Among the women, Kirti Gupta ranked 32nd, and Rajeshwari Kumari secured the 37th spot. Indian shooters Md. Asad Sultan and Sharan Susheel Gyanchand participated in the men’s trap RPO event, while Shreshtha Sisodia and Preeti Rajak competed in the women’s trap RPO event.
The Indian contingent faced challenges in the men’s and women’s skeet competition as well. The final day of the event will feature the Trap Mixed team event, with India aiming for a podium finish. The Indian teams are hopeful for success in the mixed team event.
