Olympic bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat and U23 world champion will lead the Indian contingent at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek. The competition, starting with Greco-Roman on Monday, will feature close to 350 wrestlers vying for 30 gold medals. India will be represented by 30 wrestlers across women’s, men’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman categories.
Aman, who secured his Olympic medal in the 57kg category and became the Asian champion in 2023, will compete in the men’s non-Olympic 61kg division. The 22-year-old wrestler, with several Grand Prix medals to his name, recently claimed silver at the Zagreb Open. Meanwhile, Sujeet, the reigning U23 world champion in the 65kg category, aims to continue his winning streak in Bishkek.
Sujeet, undefeated this year with gold wins in Zagreb and Tirana, is a top contender for the 65kg title. He will face familiar rival Umidjon Jalalov from Uzbekistan in the competition. The Indian women’s team, however, will miss World Championship medalist Antim Panghal, who lost her spot in the 53kg division at the national trials.
In the Greco-Roman category, five-time Asian Championships medalist Sunil Kumar will lead India in the 87kg division. At the previous Asian Championships in Amman, Jordan, Indian wrestlers secured 10 medals, including one gold. The Indian wrestling team for the Asian Wrestling Championships 2026 has been finalized, with strong contenders across different weight categories.
