India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Begins Trial Phase

Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone with the dispatch of the first-ever Vande Bharat sleeper train from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The train is heading to Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, for a rigorous series of trial runs aimed at testing its performance, passenger comfort, and safety measures.

This sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat train is a natural evolution of the chair car versions introduced in 2019. Designed specifically for long-distance overnight journeys, the sleeper coaches will offer added convenience to passengers, making them an attractive alternative to traditional trains like the Rajdhani Express.

The trials are focused on evaluating several parameters, including the train’s speed, braking systems, and overall stability across varied track conditions. These tests are essential to ensure the train meets the operational and safety benchmarks set by Indian Railways. Upon successful completion, the sleeper trains are expected to become operational, redefining overnight rail travel in India.
