India’s passenger vehicle market ended FY26 on a high note, with Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor showing significant double-digit increases. Maruti Suzuki India reported a 16.72% year-on-year growth in March 2026, selling 2,25,251 units compared to 1,92,984 units in the same period last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales reached 1,69,428 units, while exports and supplies to other OEMs stood at 47,040 units and 8,783 units, respectively.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles achieved its highest-ever annual sales of approximately 6.42 lakh units in FY26, marking a 15% growth, nearly double the industry growth rate. The company also claimed the second position in the latter half of the year based on wholesales and registrations. Tata Motors witnessed strong performance in its electric vehicle portfolio, with EV sales surpassing 92,000 units, a 43% increase year-on-year. Additionally, its CNG segment grew by 24% to about 1.72 lakh units, with the fourth quarter seeing record quarterly sales exceeding 2 lakh units at a 37% growth rate.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor also experienced robust growth, selling 4,06,081 units in FY26, a 20% rise from the previous year. The company sustained positive momentum in March, with sales climbing 24% to 37,194 units. Toyota attributed its success to continued demand across SUV, MPV, and compact segments, as well as new product launches and customer-centric initiatives. The company emphasized its commitment to hybrid and electrified technologies as part of its long-term growth strategy.
