India’s seafood exports have seen significant growth, especially in non-US markets, as highlighted by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh. Over the past 11 years, these exports have expanded steadily at an average annual rate of 7%. Marine product exports have more than doubled during this period, reaching Rs 62,408 crore in 2024-25, with shrimp exports alone valued at Rs 43,334 crore.
At the ‘Seafood Exporters Meet 2026,’ Minister Singh commended exporters for their contributions to boosting seafood exports. He also mentioned the operationalization of the EEZ Rules through Access Passes, giving priority to cooperative societies to foster inclusive growth. The minister stressed the export potential of high-value species like tuna and called for enhancements in handling, infrastructure, packaging, and market exploration to minimize losses and strengthen the export ecosystem.
Minister of State for Fisheries, George Kurian, highlighted ongoing efforts to position fisheries as a lucrative sector following the post-Budget webinar 2026. He praised exporters for their sustained efforts and underscored the importance of regulatory compliance, traceability, certifications, logistics, and value-chain development to sustain export growth. Stakeholders at the meeting appreciated government support and discussed challenges and opportunities in boosting seafood exports, including streamlining procedures for Catch Certificates and supporting fish-meal manufacturers in enhancing production quality.
