Defending champions India faced a 2-3 defeat against Thailand in the Women’s Division of Badminton Asia Team Championships. Thailand’s strong performance secured them the top spot in Group Y, with India finishing second and both teams advancing to the knockout stage. India started well with Tanvi Sharma defeating Busanan Ongbamrungphan, followed by a doubles win by Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly.
Thailand fought back, winning the next two matches as Rakshitha Ramraj and the duo of Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishra were defeated. In the final match, Malvika Bansod lost to Pornpicha Choeikeewong, allowing Thailand to clinch the victory. The tournament also serves as the qualifying event for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals in Denmark. India’s men have previously won bronze medals in 2016 and 2020.
