An IndiGo flight with 161 passengers on board had to make an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Saturday morning. This action was taken after a technical problem was detected in one of its engines. A full emergency was declared at the airport as a precautionary measure, but all passengers were safely evacuated, and no damage was reported, as confirmed by the fire department.
The incident occurred when the flight, numbered 6E 579, was en route from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Delhi. The aircraft, a Boeing 737, was being operated under a short-term arrangement by IndiGo, having been wet-leased from Corendon Airlines based in Turkey. In response to the situation, IndiGo stated that a technical issue was identified shortly before landing, prompting the pilots to request a priority landing in adherence to standard procedures.
Upon landing safely at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the necessary inspections and maintenance procedures were initiated for the aircraft. IndiGo assured that all relevant authorities were informed and emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew remains their top priority. The airline also issued an advisory regarding the prevailing weather conditions, urging travelers to check their flight status on the official website or app due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Aizawl.
Furthermore, the advisory recommended allowing extra travel time considering the potential impact on road traffic. In a separate development, shares of IndiGo’s parent company, Interglobe Aviation Ltd, closed lower by over 4 per cent on the BSE on Friday.
