Two significant infrastructure projects in Gujarat are underway to enhance connectivity and transportation for more than 1.74 lakh residents, as disclosed by the state government in the Assembly. The first project involves widening an 8.61-kilometre main road connecting 10 villages across Surat and Tapi districts, benefiting around 33,000 individuals. This initiative, costing Rs 9.30 crore, aims to improve travel between various talukas.
Minister Rushikesh Patel, representing the Roads and Buildings Department, informed the Assembly that the road widening project adhered to technical standards set by the Indian Road Congress (IRC), specifically the IRC-64 code. By expanding the existing 3.75-metre-wide road to 5.50 meters, the project ensures enhanced safety and convenience for commuters. The utilization of Passenger Car Units (PCU) data and terrain considerations further contributes to a better travel experience for citizens.
In another development, the Palanpur-Laxmipura railway overbridge in Banaskantha district, spanning 1,212.19 meters, is anticipated to benefit over 1.41 lakh residents of Palanpur city upon completion. With an approved budget of Rs 46 crore, the overbridge forms part of a comprehensive urban connectivity enhancement plan. Land acquisition for the project has been finalized, with possession procedures underway and expected to conclude soon.
Minister Patel emphasized the practical advantages of the railway overbridge, emphasizing its role in reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and enhancing daily transportation efficiency for the public. The overbridge is poised to streamline traffic flow in Palanpur, offering increased mobility and convenience to the city’s residents. These infrastructure endeavors align with the state government’s broader vision, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, to establish a globally benchmarked road network in Gujarat, focusing on bolstering rural and urban connectivity, ensuring safety, and optimizing transport efficiency for all residents.
