InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the parent company of IndiGo, has named William Walsh as the new Chief Executive Officer, pending regulatory approvals. Walsh, currently the Director General of IATA, is set to take over no later than August 3, 2026, following Pieter Elbers’ resignation earlier this month.
With a background that includes leadership roles at IATA, British Airways, and IAG, Walsh is seen as a fitting choice to guide IndiGo through its growth trajectory in the competitive aviation sector. IndiGo Chairman, Vikram Singh Mehta, expressed confidence in Walsh’s ability to navigate the complexities of the international aviation market.
Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, welcomed Walsh’s appointment, highlighting his global perspective and operational expertise. Bhatia emphasized Walsh’s leadership qualities and industry experience as valuable assets for steering IndiGo through its next phase of development.
As the incoming CEO of IndiGo, Walsh will oversee the airline’s strategic direction, focusing on enhancing operational performance, expanding the network, and improving customer experience. Walsh expressed his eagerness to collaborate with colleagues to drive excellence, innovation, and sustainable value across the organization.
