External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited Mauritius and met with Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam to convey warm wishes from PM Narendra Modi. Jaishankar highlighted the significant progress in the India-Mauritius partnership across various sectors over the past year. Discussions included areas such as development cooperation, health, education, technology, and maritime security.
During his four-day visit to Mauritius and the UAE, Jaishankar participated in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference. The conference, focusing on ‘Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance,’ brought together leaders and experts to address maritime security, economic development, and geopolitical dynamics in the region. Jaishankar also engaged with counterparts from other participating countries to reinforce India’s commitment to regional cooperation.
In the UAE, Jaishankar held talks with the country’s leadership to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE. The visit to Mauritius and the UAE underscored India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its dedication to fostering strong ties with countries in the Global South. India also welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for lasting peace in the region and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
