External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in New Delhi to talk about bilateral cooperation and global developments. The meeting also included discussions on regional matters. Earlier, India and Russia held Foreign Office Consultations where they reviewed their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership and talked about various mutual interests. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Rudenko co-chaired these consultations.
In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that the India-Russia Foreign Office Consultations were held in New Delhi. The consultations, co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, covered a wide range of topics related to their strategic partnership. Both sides shared their views on bilateral, regional, and global issues during the discussions.
India and Russia recently conducted the 7th UN Consultations in New Delhi, focusing on matters concerning the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) agenda, including counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, and UNSC reforms. The discussions involved exchanging priorities within the United Nations framework, with a specific emphasis on counterterrorism, peacekeeping, and UNSC reforms. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar had previously engaged in a telephonic conversation with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to discuss expanding bilateral ties and the West Asia conflict.
During Russian President Vladimir Putin’s State visit to India in December, formal talks were held with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the state of the India-Russia partnership, marking 25 years since its designation as a Strategic Partnership. The visit also included the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where a Joint Statement was released outlining future priorities. President Droupadi Murmu hosted a banquet in honor of President Putin at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
