Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced plans to hire 25,000 new employees in 2026. He emphasized the importance of a transparent and time-bound recruitment process to avoid legal challenges. Abdullah assured that the government is dedicated to filling the vacant positions promptly and fairly.
Responding to a query from PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Abdullah reiterated the government’s commitment to the recruitment drive. He highlighted that the issue had been extensively discussed during the ongoing Legislative Assembly session, including debates on various key matters.
Abdullah cautioned against rushing the recruitment process, citing past instances where hurried selections led to prolonged court battles. He stressed the need for a balanced approach to prevent delays due to legal disputes. The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of conducting the recruitment process diligently to prevent overage applicants from losing opportunities.
Abdullah also addressed the tendency of government employees in Jammu and Kashmir to seek postings near their residences. He acknowledged the challenge of high unemployment among qualified youth in the region, attributing it to the lack of substantial industries for absorbing skilled professionals. The preference for government jobs among the youth has further exacerbated the employment situation in the union territory.
