Jammu and Kashmir’s cricketer Shubham Pundir expressed his delight after achieving a remarkable century against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy Final at the Hubli Cricket Ground. Pundir’s century, completed off 186 deliveries, marked a historic moment as he became the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to achieve this feat in a Ranji Trophy Final. Additionally, he formed a crucial 139-run partnership with opener Yawer Hassan, who contributed 88 runs to the team’s total.
In a statement released by BCCI Domestic, Pundir shared his feelings about the achievement, emphasizing the significance of making the most of such rare opportunities. He highlighted his focus on enjoying the moment and staying at the crease for as long as possible during his innings. Pundir also revealed his strategy of aiming to reach a century quickly once he crosses the 90-run mark, a mindset he adopted since his U-19 days.
Reflecting on his batting approach against Karnataka’s skilled bowlers, Pundir discussed his tactic of playing close to his body and maintaining discipline, especially while leaving deliveries outside the off stump. By sticking to a plan of playing straight and focusing on discipline, Pundir was able to tackle the early seam movement effectively. Despite his impressive performance, Pundir was dismissed early on the second day after scoring 121 runs, including 12 boundaries and two sixes.
