State-owned oil marketing companies have significantly increased the prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) and commercial LPG due to a surge in global oil prices driven by the escalating West Asia conflict. Jet fuel prices have more than doubled, reaching a record high, while commercial LPG rates have also risen substantially, impacting various sectors.
In Delhi, the price of ATF saw a massive hike of Rs 1,10,703.08 per kilolitre, marking a 114.5% increase to Rs 2,07,341.22 per kl, surpassing the Rs 2 lakh per kl mark for the first time. This surge follows the previous peak in 2022 when ATF prices had soared to around Rs 1.1 lakh per kl post the Russia-Ukraine conflict-induced crude oil price spike.
Oil marketing companies have implemented the second consecutive monthly increase in jet fuel prices, with a 5.7% hike (Rs 5,244.75 per kl) on March 1. Additionally, the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders has been raised by Rs 195.50, with a cylinder now costing Rs 2,078.50 in Delhi.
Despite these increases, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged, with a 14.2-kg cooking gas cylinder continuing to be priced at Rs 913 in the national capital. The revisions in ATF and LPG prices are based on international benchmarks and exchange rate fluctuations, with the recent spikes reflecting the sharp rally in global crude oil prices due to supply disruptions associated with the West Asia conflict.
