Author JK Rowling has given her full backing to the upcoming ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ series despite facing criticism over its first look. The 60-year-old writer lauded the initial trailer as “incredible,” even though it received a mixed response from fans. The television adaptation, scheduled to premiere on ‘Christmas Day,’ will reinterpret each of JK’s seven Potter books across seven seasons in the next ten years.
The first teaser introduces Dominic McLaughlin, aged 12, as Harry Potter, along with a fresh ensemble cast featuring Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The series, which commenced filming in the UK last summer, also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. JK expressed her excitement for the project on social media, stating, “It’s going to be incredible,” and adding, “I’m so happy with it.”
While some viewers welcomed the new adaptation, with one praising it as “marvellous,” others criticized it as “millennial slop.” The debate surrounding the casting has also escalated, with Paapa Essiedu, set to play Severus Snape, disclosing that he faced racially motivated death threats post his casting.
