Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued a statement denouncing the clash between student groups on campus. The university administration strongly disapproves of the disruptive behavior leading to damage to public property and the campus’s inclusive environment. Strict measures are being taken in line with university regulations and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to maintain a conducive academic atmosphere.
In response to reports of protesting students locking academic buildings and intimidating others to join the protest, a scuffle erupted between student factions on the night of February 22, 2026. JNU has expressed serious concern over these incidents and reiterated its stance against such unruly conduct that undermines the university’s values. The administration emphasized its commitment to upholding academic interests, student well-being, and safeguarding public property.
Furthermore, JNU urged all stakeholders to refrain from engaging in unwarranted activities and cooperate in preserving peace and harmony on campus. The university warned of strict disciplinary actions as per regulations for any disruptions. Presently, classes and activities continue as usual, with a call for cooperation from all concerned parties to maintain normalcy on campus.
Violence erupted at JNU during a protest rally, with conflicting accounts from student groups regarding the instigators. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) had organized an ‘Equality March,’ demanding the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation over alleged controversial remarks. The protest also highlighted issues such as UGC guidelines implementation and the revocation of students’ rustication orders.
