Australia’s top fast bowler, Josh Hazlewood, is progressing in his recovery with the goal of making a comeback before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to begin on February 7 in the subcontinent. Hazlewood, a crucial figure in the Australian team, faced setbacks due to injuries, including a hamstring strain and an Achilles injury during his rehabilitation. Despite missing upcoming matches, he aims to return for a warm-up game before the World Cup.
The extended recovery period has allowed Hazlewood to make steady progress, engaging in light bowling and running activities while maintaining his strength training regimen. Expressing optimism about his recovery, Hazlewood mentioned that his rehabilitation is on track, with positive developments in his bowling, running, and strength exercises.
During the white-ball series against India last October, Hazlewood showcased excellent form, claiming three wickets in three ODIs and delivering impressive performances in T20 matches. With Australia eyeing success in the T20 World Cup, having won the title in 2021 under Aaron Finch’s leadership, Hazlewood’s potential return adds depth to their bowling attack. The team, led by Mitchell Marsh, is placed in Group B for the upcoming tournament, facing Ireland in their opening match on February 11 in Colombo.
