JSW Steel has proudly announced the appointment of Robert Simon as the Chief Executive Officer of its US operations. With a wealth of experience garnered from pivotal roles within the steel industry, Simon steps into this leadership position poised to guide JSW Steel USA to new heights. Simon’s mandate encompasses the comprehensive oversight of slab, coil, pipe, and plate production and sales at Baytown and Mingo Junction.
Reporting directly to the respective Boards of both JSW Steel subsidiary companies, he assumes the helm following a period of interim leadership. The vacancy arose in 2022 when Mark Bush resigned to explore fresh opportunities. During this interim phase, Greg Manfredi, the Chief Operating Officer, admirably filled the role. However, Simon’s appointment signifies the dawn of a permanent leadership era, promising a steadfast direction for JSW Steel USA.
Kicking off his professional journey as a Production Manager, Simon swiftly ascended the ranks, eventually assuming pivotal roles at esteemed firms within the industry. Notably, he served as the Vice President and General Manager at Evraz North America’s Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, later ascending to the role of Executive Vice President for the company’s Tubular Division.
Simon’s tenure at Steel Dynamics saw him spearheading the recovery from the financial crisis, fortifying the company’s presence in existing markets while expanding into new territories. Prior to joining JSW USA, Simon lent his expertise to various companies, including a stint as Chief Executive Officer at the Bayou Steel Group.
Additionally, his contributions extended to industry associations, where he served on the Executive Committee and chaired the Steel Manufacturers Association in the USA, besides holding a Board Membership at the American Institute of Steel Construction. Simon’s appointment signifies not only a wealth of industry experience but also a commitment to core values such as safety, workforce appreciation, and sustainability.
