With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, DMK Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has stepped up her campaign, urging voters to decisively oppose the BJP and its allies in the state. Speaking in Gangaikondan while supporting DMK candidate S. Subramanian in Tirunelveli, Kanimozhi criticized the BJP-led Union government for withholding Tamil Nadu’s rightful financial share, citing a delay in releasing Rs 3,600 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
She expressed concern that the lack of funds was impacting students’ education, especially those from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. Kanimozhi also criticized the reduced funding for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), highlighting its importance in supporting rural households’ livelihoods. She emphasized that such decisions directly affect the underprivileged in society.
Accusing the BJP of trying to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu against its two-language policy, Kanimozhi praised Tamil Nadu students’ success in competitive exams like the UPSC. She commended initiatives like the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ scheme and the focus on English education for providing better opportunities to the youth. Kanimozhi asserted that while Tamil Nadu students excel globally, the BJP’s attempt to enforce a non-policy language is unwarranted.
