Karachi, Pakistan, has been witnessing a rise in gun violence incidents, leaving nine individuals injured, including women and teenage boys, within a three-day period. Despite claims of reduced crime rates by the police, residents express fear and frustration due to frequent indiscriminate firing, making them feel vulnerable to street criminals and gunfire.
The incidents included a series of shootings across different areas of Karachi. Victims like Ayan, Sherina, and Jamila Begum were among those injured in separate shooting incidents in various locations. Police are actively investigating these attacks to determine the circumstances surrounding them.
Critics have pointed out the failure of the police to curb the use of firearms in Karachi, leading to a situation where ordinary citizens bear the brunt of such violence. The recent spate of firing incidents occurred between April 4-6, with all victims reportedly hit by bullets originating from unknown sources, as per reports by The Express Tribune.
In a separate report from last year, Karachi recorded a significant number of street crimes, including thefts, snatching, and armed robberies. The data revealed cases of vehicle thefts, motorcycle thefts, mobile phone snatching, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, murders, and other violent crimes, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the city.
