The Karnataka BJP, during bypoll campaigning in Bagalkot, highlighted the “love jihad” issue, expressing concerns about women’s safety under the current Congress government. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai emphasized the need to address these fears and ensure a secure environment for women. He referenced recent incidents in Hubballi, urging the government’s removal for the well-being of women.
Bommai criticized the government for its handling of safety issues, pointing out the recurrence of alleged “love jihad” cases. He called for active participation from women in the election process, emphasizing their influential role in shaping outcomes. The BJP leader also accused the Congress government of lacking trust in women and using welfare schemes for electoral gains.
Speaking at a Mahila Morcha meeting, Bommai raised concerns about public transport accessibility for vulnerable individuals and highlighted the long-pending demand for 33% reservation for women. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiatives promoting women’s dignity and safety, contrasting it with the alleged failures of the state government. Bommai urged voters to support the BJP candidate in the by-election as a step towards changing the current administration.
