Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah kicked off the 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. He emphasized the importance of socially relevant cinema, stating that films should address societal issues beyond just entertainment. Siddaramaiah highlighted the role of cinema in promoting social transformation and equality, particularly for marginalized groups like women, farmers, and Dalits.
International film festivals, according to the Chief Minister, play a crucial role in fostering cross-cultural understanding and advocating for social change. He stressed the need for cinema to contribute to building an egalitarian society by portraying humane relationships and progressive social norms. Siddaramaiah reaffirmed the government’s support for filmmakers producing socially impactful content, citing actor Prakash Raj’s dedication to social causes as an example.
The event, attended by various dignitaries including MLA Rizwan Arshad and Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, highlighted the government’s commitment to nurturing the film industry. Siddaramaiah expressed the state’s readiness to assist filmmakers creating socially conscious cinema and commended Prakash Raj for his advocacy on behalf of marginalized communities and constitutional values.
