Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of spreading false propaganda against the Congress government, stating that the BJP fears defeat. Speaking in Bagalkot, he expressed confidence in a good victory in both constituencies due to the positive response received during the election campaign. Siddaramaiah emphasized that the Congress government’s programs cater to all sections of society, providing social commitment and development through guarantee schemes.
The Chief Minister highlighted that development encompasses not only infrastructure like roads and bridges but also economic and social security measures. He criticized the BJP for opposing the guarantee schemes aimed at benefiting the people. Siddaramaiah refuted claims of excessive borrowing, citing compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act’s criteria for state finances.
Addressing economic performance, Siddaramaiah pointed out the state’s GDP growth of 8.1%, surpassing the central government’s rate. He underscored the Congress government’s fulfillment of most promises from its 2013 manifesto, contrasting it with the BJP’s lower delivery on commitments. Siddaramaiah urged the BJP to focus on its achievements rather than criticizing the Congress government.
In a move to rally support, the BJP’s utilization of expelled MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for campaigning was criticized by Siddaramaiah as a sign of the BJP’s desperation and fear of defeat.
