The Karnataka government recently met with representatives from KSCA, RCB, and senior officials to discuss hosting the IPL inaugural match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The decision will be finalized after the State Cabinet meeting in the evening.
The meeting, led by Home Minister G. Parameshwara, took place at Vidhana Soudha and is significant as the stadium was previously banned from hosting matches after a tragic incident in 2025. Among the attendees were top officials and key personnel from KSCA and RCB.
Parameshwara mentioned that discussions revolved around implementing recommendations from the Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission. The Cabinet will ultimately decide on allowing matches in Bengaluru, with the Home Ministry overseeing consultations and reporting back.
A committee, chaired by GBA Chairman Maheshwar Rao, examined various aspects related to hosting the match, including infrastructure upgrades and non-infrastructure measures. The government is awaiting the Cabinet’s decision to determine if cricket action will return to Chinnaswamy Stadium for the IPL opener.
