Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara mentioned that the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2025, has been sent to the President for review. The Governor raised concerns about 28 provisions of the Bill, prompting this action.
Parameshwara emphasized the importance of considering the impact of speech on society, stating that freedom of expression does not permit insulting communities or making personal attacks without consequences. The Bill aims to address such instances to prevent unrest in society.
Regarding the suicide case of industrialist C.J. Roy, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to prevent speculation and rumors. Parameshwara highlighted the need to await the SIT report to determine the roles involved in the case.
Commenting on the Union Budget 2026-27, Parameshwara expressed disappointment, stating that the budget did not meet expectations for the country’s development. He criticized the budget as lacking focus on agriculture, industry, and poverty eradication programs.
