The Karnataka Police in Hubballi dismissed claims made by a female BJP worker stating that she was assaulted and stripped by police during a voter revision dispute. Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar refuted the allegations, suggesting that the woman had undressed herself. The State Women’s Commission emphasized the need to investigate both the woman’s and police’s roles before drawing conclusions on the matter.
The Police Commissioner revealed that the BJP worker had allegedly assaulted female staff members and even bit one officer during the incident. He mentioned that the woman had three cases filed against her by local residents, leading to her arrest on January 5. The police asserted that she stripped herself while being taken into custody and also attacked four police personnel.
Responding to the incident, the State Women’s Commission chairperson, Nagalakshmi Choudhary, highlighted the necessity of a thorough investigation before making any judgments. She mentioned that the woman was accompanied by her family during the arrest, and her brother recorded the incident. Choudhary stressed the importance of verifying facts and ensuring appropriate actions are taken if any wrongdoing is found.
The video of the alleged assault and stripping incident involving the BJP worker in Hubballi has caused significant concern. The incident reportedly occurred following a complaint lodged against the woman by a Congress corporator. The dispute arose during a voter list revision process, where the BJP worker was accused of manipulating voter details, leading to clashes between party supporters.
