The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) unveiled the Sunil Joshi Pavilion at the KSCA Stadium in Hubli. This pavilion honors Sunil Joshi, the former India left-arm spinner, for his remarkable contributions to cricket in Karnataka and at the national level. The inauguration took place during the Ranji Trophy Final between Jammu & Kashmir and Karnataka.
Sunil Joshi, accompanied by his wife Ravneet, was visibly moved during the ceremony. Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, the former Karnataka chief minister, also attended the event. Joshi expressed gratitude towards KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad and others for the recognition, stating that if his journey could inspire even one more player, the pavilion’s significance would be meaningful.
Having represented India in 15 Tests and 69 ODIs from 1996 to 2001, Sunil Joshi has been a key figure in Karnataka cricket. He served as the chief selector for two years, including during India’s victorious Test series in Australia in 2020/21. Joshi’s coaching roles included guiding Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh teams in domestic cricket, as well as being the spin bowling coach for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL from 2023 to 2025.
Currently, Sunil Joshi is the spin bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He was also part of the coaching staff when India clinched the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Harare recently. The Sunil Joshi Pavilion was inaugurated in Hubli as the KSCA Stadium hosted the Ranji Trophy final between Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir.
