In Karnataka’s Ballari, the suspended Superintendent of Police reportedly tried to end his life following his suspension by the Congress-led government. The suspension was linked to alleged negligence in handling a clash that led to the death of a Congress worker. The officer, Pavan Nejjur, took sleeping pills at a friend’s farmhouse and was hospitalized in Baraguru village.
Sources revealed that the violence erupted shortly after Nejjur assumed his role in Ballari district, marking his first executive posting in 11 years. While there is no official confirmation from his family or the police, internal sources verified the incident. Fortunately, after medical treatment, Nejjur is now stable and recuperating.
The opposition Leader in Karnataka, R. Ashoka, criticized the government, labeling it a “murderous government” due to the deteriorating law and order situation. Ashoka alleged that the SP was unfairly suspended after the shooting incident near a BJP MLA’s residence. He claimed that the Congress workers were responsible for the violence and accused them of planning the attack.
Ashoka further accused the government of pressuring officials, leading to extreme actions like suicide attempts. He highlighted the need for accountability, suggesting that higher-ranking officials should also face consequences for such incidents. The controversy surrounding the SP’s suspension has raised concerns about the state’s governance and the treatment of law enforcement officers.
